The challenge was to design a stadium that is contemporary yet very connected to the locality of the place. The stadium is designed to be environmentally sustainable through rain water harvesting, and generating electricity through wind catching and wind turbines.

Steel and bamboo are the main building materials. Steel for it is recyclable and bamboo for Rubavu's proximity to the volcanoes national park which has thick tunnels of bamboo.
